That was good spumoni--not too heavy on the licorice flavor. Why am I eating spumoni at 5 AM? Am still at work and it was there!

Animal Anarchy: Adopting your Way Out of Killing http://ping.fm/36f9K

I am dedicating my status to National Feral Cat Day.

Young cats are cute, but the older I get the more I appreciate the more sedate nature of the senior animals.

Trying to teach my rescue kitty not to nip me. I know she's just being a cat, but sometimes it hurts!

Tempest finds the "kids hate vegetables" stereotype lame. As a child I liked certain vegetables and disliked others--just like I do now.

Torrid Tempest: How Can People Be So Heartless? http://ping.fm/YXwuD

Dear Facebook Sidebar: I would sooner perform surgery on myself with no anesthetic than "join Sharron Angle."

The first day this week that I haven't wakened feeling completely heartbroken, though there are still many difficulties.

How Can People Be So Heartless?

This is how I've felt for most of the week. I am grateful for the kindness of a very few decent people. I am still saddened by the animosity displayed towards me from a person for whom I've felt a mutual respect and, I thought, something of a friendship, for a number of years. Yet I cannot allow one person's bitterness to destroy me. It is dismaying to discover that someone for whom you have respect turns out to be someone who makes themselves feel bigger by making others feel small.
Yet this is only my own unhappy discovery. Indeed, many suffer. Most people really do not seem to care about the suffering of their fellow human or creature. There are too many suffering for any one of us to help. Yet if we all helped one another, would not that suffering be made smaller?
The least we can do is try not to make things worse for each other. Does it really help to hurt a cat, kick a dog, beat up someone weaker than yourself? Does it even help to throw verbal barbs at someone who is fat, gay, mentally ill, mentally retarded, transgendered, or otherwise different? Do you really feel good when you realize how much you hurt that person or creature? If so, why? What is missing in you that this sort of behavior makes you feel bigger? Has your heart truly shrunk to such a size that the only thing that can inflate your ego is to demean other people and beings?
Most of us are struggling. Would it not make us feel better to pull our fellows from the raging stream and prevent them from being dragged under than to hurl stones at them?
I have very little faith in humanity to do the right thing as a whole. Yet sometimes there are people who shine as bright lights in the darkness.
A thanks to those people. You are rare and beautiful.
A wish for bright blessings upon you from your battered and bruised but still kicking chum,

Woke up feeling blue as blue could be. 'Tis a gray day and I can take advantage of the cool weather and go for a bit of a walk to begin.

Our actions do matter. We can make or break a person's spirit depending on whether we give an encouraging or discouraging word.

Goodness--I may actually have to wear a jacket when I go out tomorrow!

Celebrity Weight Loss: Big Whoop

I cannot be the only person who thinks that these people didn't look bad in their "before" photos. We as a society need to stop making such a big deal of size and focus on the soul beneath the skin.

Torrid Tempest: Plastic Surgery Sometimes Isn't Pretty http://ping.fm/oWhAI

Plastic Surgery Sometimes Isn't Pretty

Here are some photos of celebrities whose faces have been destroyed by plastic surgery. They don't even look human any more.

It's a shame that people feel the need to do this to themselves. I have had minor plastic surgery, such as liposuction to remove a double chin (back when I was fortunate enough to only weigh 150 pounds) and caps on badly damaged teeth. I will never have botox and I have stopped dyeing my hair since it is now almost completely gray. We need to stop seeing aging as a bad thing. We may not obliterate people once they hit 30 such as was the premise of Logan's Run, but we do push the idea that anyone over a certain age is no longer valuable. It needs to stop!

A mature and still handsome Michael York, who allowed his face to age naturally rather than trying (and failing) to still look 25 via plastic surgery
A mature and lovely Jenny Agutter (left) with a friend
Farrah Fawcett also allowed herself to age naturally. Even when she became ill, her natural beauty shone through.

Life does not end at 30. Nor does beauty. We need to become a more mature society and learn to see the beauty in all of life's NATURAL phases!
